Geography of the Panchayat

Paingottoor Grama Panchayat is a prominent hilly area in Kothamangalam Taluk, located at the easternmost eastern end of Ernakulam district, sharing its border with Idukki district. Bordered by Pothanicad and Kavalangad panchayats to the north, Vannapuram to the east, Kodikulam to the south, and Avoli panchayat to the west, this region maintains a distinct topography filled with hillsides, plains, and valleys due to its proximity to the Western Ghats. Its laterite-mixed soil, made fertile by numerous natural streams and rivulets, and its tropical hill climate are ideally suited for agriculture. Consequently, the land use in the panchayat is entirely dedicated to agricultural purposes; rubber plantations terraced along the hillsides, large-scale pineapple cultivation, and cash crops like coconut and black pepper primarily define the geographical features of Paingottoor and the livelihood of its people.
